Gone to Soon

Dear Prince,

Hope you are doing well,

Can’t wait till you come back home.

Miss you at home

So we can go to the studio

And finish some songs.

See you soon.

Product of MY environment

I come from….where you get pulled over for having a certain type of hair

I come from…..where mothers bury their sons before they graduate

I come from…..where stereotypes follow you for your whole life

I come from…..where we learn how to scale drugs before we learn how to make a resume

I come from…..where we grow without our fathers

I come from…..where you can’t go certain places at certain time

I refuse to let my environment mold me

I refuse to settle for less

I refuse to let others define me

I refuse to let myself become a menace to society

I refuse to let others stunt y growth

I am….. ME

He was drinking,
Drinking to dissolve the pain of struggle and too much pride.
Drinking to reassure himself that this too shall pass.
Tired of wondering when will be his last day on this mortal plane.
Will I live to fight another day?
Growing from the ashes of the ghetto,
and making the success his own.

He was drinking.
Will he become a product of his environment?
“Why must I be burdened with this torture to please others?”
Is this what he wants for himself?
Is this really how he must live?
All he can remember is that…….

HE WAS DRINKING.
